From Dina at The Dancing Gypsy:

"FRIDAY NOVEMBER 13:
INVOKING THE DARK GODDESS WITH AEPRIL SCHAILE.
7:00 - 8:30 WORKSHOP.
GUIDED RITUAL AT 9PM.

This November, the occurrence of Friday the 13th falls within the Dark of the Moon, a perfect occasion to connect to the Dark Feminine within us! On this auspicious night during the Season of the Witch, Aepril Schaile "An American Priestess of the Dark Goddess" will take you on a deeply profound Underworld journey using bellydance, story, and myth. Through moving meditation, improvisation, and choreography, we will express the powers of the sacred Dark Feminine archetypes. Experience Medusa, Kali, Hecate, Circe, Persephone, Lilith; the 'Witch' energy within you; and the ability to shape-shift. You will come away with a fresh sense of authenticity, power, and grace in your dance, and a connection to ancient & timeless energies. This workshop is for beginner through advanced dancers, and is not so much about technique as it is about the journey we will share. After the workshop, stay for our guided Dark Moon ritual, where participants will dance the mysteries of the Dark Goddess. Ritual is for dancers and non-dancers alike; all are welcome.

Reservations are required. To do so please email dina@thedanicnggypsy.com or call 508-885-3639."

Raks Spooki IV--now with performer list!

Raks Spooki IV: A Gothic Belly Dance Event
presented by Badriya al-Badi'a

Sunday, November 15, 7pm
The Regent Theatre, 7 Medford Street, Arlington, MA
Tickets: $17, available at the Regent Theatre box office or at the door
http://regenttheatre.com/events/Raks_Spooki.htm

If Halloween is the time when the boundaries between worlds are opened, Raks Spooki is the time to see what has slipped through the veils and stayed in this world! Come see all aspects of the darker side of belly dance explored at the fourth annual Raks Spooki, from the elegantly enigmatic to the morbidly macabre to the archly humorous to the utterly unclassifiable. This year's roster of performers draws from a variety of belly dance backgrounds from the traditional to the tribal and include: Aepril Schaile, Ameena, Aneckha, Aradia, Aria Beth Michaels, Atropos (Baseema), Badriya al-Badi'a, Bellastygma, Di'Ahna, Ela Rogers, Eugenia, Johara's Snakedance Theatre, Katrina, Naomi, Neylan, Qamar, Sabrina, Sabrina L., Samara, Selcouth, Tassellations, Tempest and Vadalna Tribal Dance Company. As the standing-room-only audiences of previous years can attest, this is a show you will not soon forget!

Proceeds from the event will be donated to Women for Women (www.womenforwomen.org/ ), a non-profit organization which helps women in war-torn regions of the world get back on their feet and start rebuilding their lives. Currently, they are focused on Afghanistan, Iraq, Sudan, Kosovo, Rwanda, Colombia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Nigeria and Democratic Republic of the Congo. Some of these are places where our dance movements, costuming and jewelry come from. Using what women of the world have given us from our relative place of peace and safety, we can make real differences in the lives of other women. In exercising our freedom to dance in this country, we can help women around the world gain their own freedom from war, poverty and injustice.

Badriya is an Arlington-based performer of both gothic and traditional Arabic belly dance styles. For more information, see

"Journey to the Underworld" - Special Samhain Workshop Presentation

Journey to the Underworld
A special 3 hour workshop experience with Tempest

When was the last time you broke down your own facades and explored the truth of what lays bare underneath? Are you brave enough to look and become stronger as a dancer for it? Being a part of the bellydance community for any length of time affects us in so many ways, many below the surface that can influence how we look and feel about ourselves and others. In this dynamic and unusual workshop, we will explore through exercises and movement combinations the mythic concept of the Descent and Encounter in Mediterranean, Middle Eastern, and Indian cultures. This is a safe and supportive opportunity to challenge yourself mentally and physically, while discovering who you are or wish to be as a dancer. Warning: This is not a "woo-woo" or "new-agey" class, but it will ask you to push your boundaries.

When: Saturday, October 31st, 2009, from 11-2pm (actual workshop time)
Why is it on Halloween? For many traditions and cultures around the world, at this time of the year, they believe the veils between this world and the next are thin or lifted. Hence why we see many references to the dead, spirits, and the macabre, ancestor recognition and revelry, etc. It is also considered to be the end of the Wheel of the Year, so a good time to finish things up and start anew.
Where: Middle of Nowhere Studio, Coventry, RI (address will be sent to registrants) (off of exit 6)
How Much: $45 for the 3 hour workshop by 10/18, $55 afterwards plus there will be an optional outdoor ritual working afterwards. The workshop is limited to 10 students ONLY.
What To Wear/Bring: Comfy dance attire, water, snack. Allergy meds if you're allergic to cats.
Coming from out of town? There are two hotels (Super 8 and a Bester Western) a few minutes from the studio location, and right off the freeway at exit 6 (Nooseneck Hill Road). Folks who may be making a week/weekend out of their New England trip may want to consider hotels in downtown Providence as well.
Additional activities: There are Halloween festivities that evening in Coventry that workshop students (and their partners/friends) are welcome to participate in, and we'll be taking a trip up to Salem, Mass on Sunday, and y'all are welcome to join the caravan up and enjoy the day with us.
About Tempest:
Tempest pulls from her visual arts background (BFA from RISD), literary tendencies, and global inspirations to create dance that crosses the boundaries of time and culture. Tempest began her journey into dance in 2000, and has traveled the country to study traditional, folkloric, and fusion forms of bellydance. She is the premiere instructor of Gothic Bellydance in North America, and her extensive work in the genre has helped to define and develop the movement across the world. Her compelling performances exemplify her distinctively theatrical and expressive style, and are rooted in oriental dance technique with a transcendent approach. Her costume designs have revolutionized the look of modern bellydance, and continue to inspire new and old generations of dancers alike.

In addition to her dance background, Tempest is an ordained minister in the Modern Tradition of Witchcraft, and has been a community leader, teacher, and guide in the New England and Bay Area Pagan communities for well over a dozen years. She is passionate about creating positive community by addressing the needs and concerns (physical, mental, emotional, metaphysical) of the individual.

Hipnotech - October 23rd in Toronto

Business as Usual proudly presents our inaugural bash: Hipnotech, October 23rd

Featuring:

Rosanna McGuire [Business as Usual | www.cleoflaptra.com]

Rosanna returns to Sounthern Ontario after spending 2 years studying and performing in San Francisco. There, she studied with a who's who of bellydance: Suhaila and Jamila Salimpour, FCBD, Jill Parker, Zoe Jakes, Rachel Brice, Mira Betz, Cera Byer, and Amy Sigil. In California, Rosanna also had the opportunity to expand her movement repertoir outside of bellydance, into vinyasa yoga, breakdance, house, and locking. She is known for her unique interpretation of tribal fusion, incorporating elements of vintage jazz dances as well as hip-hop, while referencing traditional styles of Middle Eastern dance. Rosanna continually strives to dance outside of her own box, and fully admits to having dance ADD.

Musical support from:

JD Mack [Business as Usual | Opulent Temple]

Opulent Temple heavy hitter JD Mack (aka Nick McAlister) steps in with his blend of bass heavy dancefloor stompers - everywhere from slamming breaks to slamming techno (see a pattern developing here?). Having played around the world from Bondi Beach to Burning Man (along side DJ Dan, Christopher Lawrence, and Carl Cox to name a few), JD is once again getting ready to unleash the best on Toronto's unsuspecting victims.

G Cue [Raw Soul]

Gerard Valdez, aka G Cue, has been playing his own brand of chunky, funky house in Toronto and surroundings for years and is a major threat on the decks. He is cofounder of Raw Soul and a regular at underground house jams put on by Nine, Boogie Inc., and Bounce. Gerard has been djing for 16 years of his life, learning and being inspired by Toronto locals as well as visiting stars like Mark Farina and Derrick Carter. Gerard has also played Harvest Festival, Promise Cherry Beach parties, Circa, and Footwork, to name just a few of his musical appearances and milestones.

Doors 830pm, First set at 930, Second set at 1030pm. Bring your dancing shoes.

$10.60 advance ($10 + paypal fee), $15 at the door if available, $5 after the bellydance performance (around 11:30). $10 virtual tickets available for me in person or by snail mail. I will not be issuing ANY paper tickets. You will receive email confirmation and just provide your name at the door. Tickets available at http://www.cleoflaptra.com

Bring your dancing shoes.

Held at Labspace Studio in the east end.
2A Pape Ave. at Eastern Ave.
Accessible by either the Queen Streetcar (24 hour), or by 72 Pape from Pape or Union Stations (runs 5am-1am on Saturdays)

Spaces are also still available in Rosanna's first weekend workshop intensive. This is an extremely rare, first time, maybe never again opportunity to study with one of Canada's most creative and technical tribal fusion dancers. For more details, please visit http://www.cleoflaptra.com

Friday October 23rd (Aurora Live Studios, 392 Queen Street E)
12-2pm: Yoga and fast technique.
Following a vinyasa warmup, we're going to drill drill drill. We'll be working on improving quality and speed of hip and upper body movements and adding footwork. Multiple level options will be given. Bring a towl and be prepared to sweat.

230-430: Technique contin. and flexibility training
More sweating. We will take advantage of our supple, warm muscles to safely and effectively increase our flexibility. We will be discussing techniques and practices specifically for helping those of us who were not born flexible!! Do you stretch and stretch but don't see any improvement? This is for you.

Saturday October 24th (Mad For Dance 263 Adelaide St. West)
1230-230: Fusion, movement invention, and creating choreography
We will be doing a combination of discussion and exercises on fusing dance styles, expanding your movement vocabulary, and creating solo choreography. Participants should bring "ideas in progress" for fusion, movements, and choreographies and be open to group discussion. This workshop is geared for dancers who either want to start performing solo, who want to improve their current solo choreographic work, and also for those who want to break out of using only a specific set of movements.

3-5: Flapper fusion
My dance-baby: a combination of vintage jazz dance and bellydance, completely fabricated from my own imagination. I will be teaching this style as an example of the principles discussed in the earlier workshop. Don't know what on earth this could be? See my video from Tribal Fest 2008:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mqG-7DNB1No

Sunday October 25th (Mad For Dance 263 Adelaide St. West)
12-2: Funk styles for bellydancers - Funkifying your bellydance and bellydancifying your funk.
We will be going over how to utilize bellydance technique to create illusory effects in popping, contracting different muscle groups to create a hit, breaking down boogaloo rolls in bellydance terminology, and flipping arm waves inside and out. I will also be discussing different dance styles that are commonly performed with popping, and the distinction between popping and locking.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9GYUOvjOlvg

230-430: Slow technique and flexibility.
This technique section will focus on drilling SLOOOOOOOWWWWWLLLLLLYYYY. We will also be doing yoga and other excercises to work on balance. We will end with more stretches (expanding on what we did on Friday).

430-5: Questions and wrap up

Cost
$240 before Oct 16
$45 per half day

Send registration via paypal (fees included in cost above) to blueberrysouffle@hotmail.com Registration will shortly be available via my website. For snail mail registration, contact me for a mailing address. You can also register in person at my classes or events. Class size is limited so register early to guarantee a spot. No refunds, but it is partially or fully transferable (ie. another dancer can take your Friday workshops if you can't make it).

Intensive in Toronto with Rosanna/Cleoflaptra

After a 2 year hiatus from the East Coast, spent training in SF, I'm moving back to the great white north in September. Since its been SOOO long since I've either taught or performed in Toronto and I've done SOOO much since I've been in San Fran, I've decided to pull together an extravaganza eleganza of dance madness. I'm packing in as much as possible into 3 days of teaching, as well as throwing a party with performances by moi, and beats courtesy of 2 of my favourite DJs, Nick McAlister and Gerard Valdez.

Want to know more about my dancing? Please check out my website http://www.cleoflaptra.com

The details of the workshop have been sorted out and the schedule is as follows:

Friday October 23rd (Aurora Live Studios, 392 Queen Street E in Toronto)

Cost
$240 (CAD) before Sept 30
$275 (CAD) after Sept 30

Send registration via paypal (fees included in cost above) to blueberrysouffle@hotmail.com Registration will shortly be available via my website. For snail mail registration, contact me for a mailing address. You can also register in person at my classes or events (such as Rachel Brice in Ottawa Oct. 9th).

No refunds, but it is partially or fully transferable (ie. another dancer can take your Friday workshops if you can't make it).

Exquisite Corpse Productions presents:
Descent: Dances of the Dark Goddess: DESIRE

It has been told since the time before remembrance...
Each and every year, the Goddess makes her Descent into the Underworld.The Dark Goddess...ancient and eternal aspect of the Divine Feminine, modern archetypal force. A figure of worship, awe, horror, fascination; a force ofdestruction, creation, beauty, death, sex, rebirth...

In the season ruled by Hades, during the darkening of the moon and the waning of the year: The Dark Queen and the Madwoman, the Temple Priestess and the Sacred Harlot, The Destroyer and the Lover, the Goddess of the Moon and the Hunt, thedance of the different forces that live within every woman: romance, innocence, fear, darkness, danger, passion, DESIRE...behold some of the darkly feminine themes explored by the artists of Descent...

Where do Eros, the Sacred, and the dark heart of the Underworld intersect?

Raks Spooki IV, Nov. 15, Arlington, MA!

Mark your calendars...

Raks Spooki IV!
Sunday, November 15, 7:30pm
The Regent Theatre (upstairs on the big stage!)
7 Medford Street
Arlington, MA
tickets are not yet on sale but an announcement will be made as soon as they are

Now accepting applications for performers--due to the limited number of performance slots and high interest in performing, I cannot guarantee that every applicant will be able to perform. (In fact, I can pretty much guarantee that not every applicant will be able to perform, which is why I will be holding a more informal gothic hafli in spring 2010, open on a first come, first serve basis.) Selections will be made first and foremost on the basis of presenting a diverse program with a variety of styles and artistic visions. Applications should include:

1. Your dance name and real name, if different (troupes, provide troupe name and a main contact person)

2. Complete contact information

3. Your performance concept, including music choice, 6 minutes maximum --->remember, this is a *gothic* event! You
don't have to be a regular performer of gothic belly dance, but your concept for Raks Spooki should have something
gothic about it.

4. Link to video clip online, or contact me about mailing me a DVD. If I have seen you perform before this is not
necessary, but please do not assume that if we were in a show together that I was able to see you--check first.
This does not have to be video of the project you have in mind for Raks Spooki but should be representative of your
dancing in general.

Please email me directly at badriya at rcn dot com with your application and do not send it via Tribe, Facebook, LiveJournal or other social networking site. I will however accept delivery via messenger bats ;-)

Deadline for applications is August 31, and notifications of selection will go out by September 6.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any further questions--as always, I am looking forward to the wonderful performances this community produces, and all the more so now that we're back on the big stage!

shimmy spookily,

ABOUT ALYSSUM POHL…
Hailing from Lexington, Kentucky, Alyssum Pohl brings wit and joy to her performance. A lifelong dancer, she began her study of tribal-style bellydance with Sri Tarasita, director of Rakadu Gypsy, in 1998, and commenced performing with Rakadu three years later. Rakadu, famous for their storytelling and improvisational bellydance, is and has been the perfect fountainhead for Alyssum's performance style. In addition to bellydance, Alyssum is accomplished in yoga, front-bending contortion, rhythm tap, and has many years of training in dance forms from around the world besides. While she lived in New England (2004-2008), she honed her own style of tribal bellydance by incorporating her contortion abilities and sharpening her isolations. She is influenced greatly by her teachers Sri Tarasita and Julie Lively as well as Heather Stants, Mira Betz, and more.
WORKSHOP DESCRIPTIONS:
Knock 'em dead!
What works on stage, you ask, especially those bigger ones with the fancy lighting, back stages, and sound guys? This class is for those wanting an understanding of what really carries all the way to the back rows. Get ready for big fantastic whip-sharp moves supplied with clear and concise explanations for graceful and flawless execution. Tips and concepts to make you hip work bigger, sharper, and more polished (thus more effective on stage), and how to improve speed while not loosing clarity of movement.

The Art of Making It Weird (Slow, Lovely, and Strange)
We are going to ride the edge between exquisite and strange in this slow movement workshop. All that ooey gooey stuff that is so fun and delicious to watch and do will be focused on, using elements from the head down through to the fingertips. We will be focusing on super slow isolations, extreme undulations, and upper body technique. Hand work, elbow work, wrist work, posture, oblique strengthening (to get that horizontal pull that makes mayas and hip slides so exquisite and strange), belly rolls with emphasis on stomach musculature. And of course the elusive flutter!

ABOUT  ZOE JAKES…
Zoe is a proud member of The Indigo, which recently was on the road touring their new show Le Serpent Rouge. She has been touring with Bellydance Superstars since the fall of 2005 and can be seen performing on their new Tribal Fusions DVD. Her first DVD, a drum solo choreography, will be coming out this winter. Combining talents with David Satori and Tommy Cappel to form the band Beats Antique, Zoe has just release their second album with CIA records, Collide. When not with The Indigo, she tours with The Yard Dogs Road Show, a cartoon circus sideshow of wacky dimension, and has been seen tearing it up with the Extra Action Marching Band.
An innovative dancer, Zoe has been said to have her own unique take on Tribal bellydance. She takes her influence from Art Nouveau, tango, Breakdance, and Indian classical dance as well as all things vaudeville. Zoe was nominated for Zaghareets best interpretive artist 2007, and The Indigo recently won best troupe 2008. She loves unicorns and has never once doubted their existence.

Events in November?

Does anybody know of any events planned for metro Boston in November? I'm hitting a scheduling snag with the theatre where I hold Raks Spooki for the date I had originally wanted. I'm specifically looking at November 1 or November 8. I don't want to plan this right on top of anyone else's event. Thanks!

April 11 - Two workshops with Tempest

MeaHuna Productions is bringing Tempest, the “Gothmutha”, to Washington, DC, on April 11th! She’ll be teaching two workshops on finding your inner voice and developing a strong stage presence. I can personally attest to Tempest's unique and insightful approach to being not only a performer but also an artist on stage. I'm really looking forward to learning her approaches to bringing art to life through dance... if you're a performing dancer, particularly if you're blending theater into your dance, you don't want to miss this!

Tempest is the woman who made gothic bellydance a worldwide phenomenon. She developed the original Gothic Bellydance Resource online, and she is an inspiration for myriad dancers around the world (including myself).

Workshops will be followed by a ritual dance dedication by Tempest celebrating friend, dancer, and artist Kaihea at the Palace of Wonders.

Both workshops will be held at Saffron Dance in Arlington, Virginia.
Registration and workshop descriptions at http://meahunaproductions.com/?page_id=12

For more information about Tempest, visit her website at www.darklydramatic.com

PRESENCE. Portland ME workshop Mar 14 with Aepril Schaile

All the way up on the northernmost end of the east coast...

PRESENCE.
A dance workshop with Aepril Schaile

pres·ence (przns), n.:
1. The state or fact of being present; current existence or occurrence.
2. Immediate proximity in time or space.
3. The area immediately surrounding a great personage.
4. A person who is present.
5. A supernatural influence felt to be nearby.
6. A person's bearing, the quality of self-assurance and effectiveness that permits a performer to achieve a rapport with the audience: stage presence.

What makes us authentically present, and thereby powerful and effective on the stage?

In this class we challenge ourselves to embrace a state of presence in our dance, in all the ways that the definition of "presence" implies. In a safe and supportive setting, we employ theatre and movement technique along with spiritual and emotional self exploration, delving into ways to achieve a fluid oneness and communion with our audience. Dancing on the liminal ground of technical precision *with* uninhibited expression, of control *and* letting go, we allow our energies to flow from the center with joy, wholeness, receptivity, strength, expression, and passion.

4-5:30pm
at the St Lawrence Arts Center, Portland, ME
$30
space is very limited, so please register now:

I still have space for vendors, if you have goods for gothic belly dancers and those who love them :-) Vending fee is $30 per table, payable in advance (I'm fine with people splitting a table in half, but you will have to find your own table buddy--you can't reserve a half a table).

Endless Summer Jersey Shore Intensive with Asharah and Tempest - Aug 23rd

August 23rd - in Cape May, NJ! Early Discounted Registration ends on Friday!

"Danse Mécanique" with Asharah - 10:45am-1:45pm (3 hours!)
Integrating Elegant and Technical Movement for Tribal Fusion Bellydance
Experience Level: Intermediate beginner and above.
This workshop will help you refine your technique and add elegance to your bellydance movement. While sharp pops and locks are an essential part of the tribal dancer's repertoire, grace and polish are equally, if not more, important for conveying expression and feeling from the stage to the audience. Asharah will lead students through an intense warm-up that will prepare the body for fluid arm-work, well-defined isolations, and dramatic extension. We will drill smooth bellydance movements (such as arm waves, interior hip circles, and undulations) and hard contraction movements (such as chest locks and hip work in various directions), and Asharah will teach a short combination using these moves in a choreography, emphasizing flow and musical interpretation.

"Between The Veils" with Tempest - 2:15-4:15pm (2 hours!)
Discover the darker side of veilwork, from dramatic entrances, intricate and intimate veilplay, to exiting with a flourish that will leave 'em wanting more. Learn to truly dance with your veil and tame it's inner cat, see it as a partner and not a prop. We'll cover proper veil technique, fusion movements and accents, pros and cons of materials and presentations, and making effective use of your veil. Be sure to bring at least one three yard veil-rectangular or circular. Can be silk, chiffon, or other light, flowing material. All levels welcome.

STUDIO DETAILS: North Beach Gym, 3860 Bayshore Road, North Cape May, NJ 08204 -
This is right by the Cape May-Lewes Ferry, in the old Cinema 8 shopping plaza.

About Tempest's Intensives:
This event is part of a series of presentations by Tempest in her local tristate area. As her schedule has her traveling all of the country and the world, these presentations will only be offered 2-3 times a year, as her schedule allows. Don't miss this opportunity to study with her in your own backyard in a comfortable setting with a small class-size at a fabulous price!

Tuition*: Early Registration: Asharah's: $35 (for 3 hours), Tempest's: $25 (for 2 hours), or $55 for both until August 15th.
Then $45 and $35 respectively if space allows ($75 for both, cash).

some spaces left, and the early registration discount ends on Friday: http://www.darklydramatic.com/tempest/nj.html

p.s. - there's a a couple of performance slots left available as well - preference given to workshoppers!

Is your world all about dance OR....

Do you have other interests besides "eating and breathing" bellydance/fusion/ethnic dance/insert dance of choice here?

There was a time when all I did was think about troupe stuff, costuming, and dance. I've found this wasn't good because, if it went astray, it could be devastating...so, I focused on other creative things. Gardening, illustration, art, other theater projects.

What about you?

The Hit and Run Life...

Haha...no, it's not an event title....rather, and actual topic based on a loose bunch of conversations with other dancers. And it goes something like this: is it that we are so busy, or that society has changed...that it seems that people are sort of just hitting and running--you know, post an event, do the event, post another event, do the event...and sort of run along life without actually BEING in life. I mean, this particular board seems to mimic that, no? Is there actual participation in life, or is it more "acquiring" accolades, etc, to put under ones belt...is it about moving forward at a high rate of speed, or actually slowing down and being in the moment? And why?

I'm actually curious about this. What are your thoughts?

Meet, Greet, and Discuss: "None of the Above" Belly Dance

Monday, July 14
NOTA Bene: "None of the Above" belly dancers' working group

Williamsburg or Lower Manhattan location TBD
7 pm

Are you interested in belly dance that doesn't easily fit into a mainstream category? Using, in whole or in part, ethnic, folklore, cabaret or tribal moves to create something that isn't right for an ethnic, cabaret, or tribal venue or audience? Creating work that is alternative and/or fusion, but that doesn't quite fit in with (or is entirely unrelated to) the more familiar goddess, fantasy, archetype, and/or gothic themes? Looking for a creative community?

Hostesses Autumn Ward (AutumnWard.com) and Melissa Voodoo (VoodooSisters.com) invite other "none of the above" artists for an informal meet and greet on Monday, July 14 from 7:00 to 8:30ish. Lower Manhattan or Williamsburg location to be determined based on volume of response.

Our definitions are loose and our scope is broad; our general goal for the evening, though, is to connect innovators who are doing (or want to be involved in) unorthodox performances that happen around the creative margins of the bellysphere. We're hearing from a lot of dancers who say they want to "do something," and we want to connect you. Of course, we are also interested in finding dancers, thinkers, and other movers and shakers for our own projects. (Autumn is developing new theatrical ensemble pieces for 2009, and Melissa is working on a showcase for like-minded performers. We are NOT auditioning or casting at this meeting, but we are looking to shape our plans by learning more about who/what is out there.) So, if you'd like to work with us, come! But, if you're more interested in your own or different projects, also come!

Our specific agenda for the meeting will be to share what resources participants seek and have to offer in terms of:

-talent
-collaboration
-classes and educational opportunities
-venues
-funding
-inspiration
-identity forging
-crossovers with non-ethnic dance, theater, variety, neo-vaudeville, and burlesque

Please RSVP to autumn@autumnward.com if would like to attend, or just want to get on an email list for this group.

Please forward and repost this announcement!

Hey guys...heres a rundown of other things a'happenin' with us:

Last month, I MC'ed Manhattan Tribal's Tribal Salon. For some crazy reason, they want me back. Apparently, they like having some dread-headed girl make mortifying jokes at their expense :) The show rocks, by the way....Manhattan Tribal's mad stylings, awesome guest dancers, yummy grub at D'jebon...and more fun....so don't miss out on the next one in August...will have more specifics up soon, and you can also visit our friends Manhattan Tribal to get the 411 scoop directly: http://www.mimifontana.com/manhattantribal.html

Upcoming Zaghareet article features ChoveXani and the Night of 1000 Goddesses. I had a nice interview with long-time supporter, and writer, Erin Marshall, and opened up about the whole process on the creation of N1000. So if you're interested in tales of creativity, organization, and hair pulling stuff (it's alright kids, the hair ain't all real!) then hop on over and ask editor Sharina how to get your hands on the August edition: email zaghareetmagazine@earthlink.net

October looks like ChoveXani is doing it's annual witches ball in New York City with Charmed by Starr...more deets later, or visit: www.charmedbystarr.com

And then MAYBE there is extra special goodness happening with MORE real witches in Salem...mwahahahaaa

Alrighty! After traversing the dead forest and getting to the Middle Of Nowhere...I've returned. Hmmm, so back to moderating the site..which is good because it was sorta looking like the "event" tab of this tribe....hmmm.....

Sooo..maybe more subjects, same amount of events postings? Hope that seems fair.

So, just a thought, since I haven't caught up with most of you...what is everyone doing for summer?

AND, who is going to Spring Caravan? I'll be there supporting my peeps! :D

Triskelion Arts Studio A

Fancy kicks, tight spins and those elusive concepts to take pops and locks to the next level by mixing the liquid smoothness of a snake with hits and stops that look almost inhuman. This workshop will focus on ways to perform with passionate expression while maintaining control and grace. These concepts will be fully broken down using short combinations as examples so the student is able to get a real understanding of the mechanisms behind them.

~

We will incorporate other elements into spins and kicks, drawing a wee bit from tango, Ballet and Classical indian Kathak, exploring things like leg extension and stomping. Lots of focus on quick spins as well, basic exercises for turning techniques, and how to train yourself to stop on a dime, which always looks impressive. Spotting basics, as well as non spotted turns, will be covered, and techniques for using legs and arms to initiate a turn. Let's make those legs and footsies pretty, shall we?

Zoe is a proud member of the indigo which recently was on the road touring their
show Le Serpent Rouge. She has been touring with Bellydance Superstars since the fall of 2005 and can be seen performing on their new Tribal Fusions DVD.

Combining talents with David Satori and Tommy Cappel to create Tribal Derivations last spring, Zoe discovered she enjoyed creating music, and plans to make more.
When not with the Indigo, she tours with The Yard Dogs Road Show, a cartoon circus sideshow of wacky dimension, and has been seen tearing it upwith the Extra Action Marching Band.
An innovative dancer, Zoe has been said to have her own unique take on Tribal bellydance. She takes her influence from Art Nouveau, tango, Breakdance, and Indian classical dance. Zoe was recently nominated for Zaghareets best interpretive artist 2007. She loves unicorns and has never once doubted their existence.

Return of the Goddesses! Sept 14th 2008

The post is also known as "rumors of my death have been greatly exaggerated"...although *ahem* I'm the one who started the rumor. Anyhow, I reposted my blog, in case you aren't the blog-readin' type in regards to the whole situation, so here goes:
~~~~
People, people, PEOPLE. I love you, you know I do, right? No, really, I LOVE YOU. Never have I, in my entire life, felt so loved than for the past few months when, ironically, I decided to write a li'l blog about me LEAVING because I was sort of at the end of my rope. I thought "hey, no big deal, this is just a fast note, on the blog, to my friends, so I wouldn't have to keep re-explaining why I was leaving." Little did I know....I mean, for the longest time I thought, like, 5 people read what I post, anyway.
HA! Ok, I was more than overwhelmed when you guys wrote me. Several times. Over several months. But then you CALLED. FROM OTHER STATES. To tell me how crazy I was and said scary stuff like: "You can't leave bellydance, you've made such an impact", or "But we love Night of 1000 Goddesses", or, "Girl, have you lost yo' mind?"
Ok, don't get me wrong, there was plenty of warm, fuzzy feelings and maybe even tears of gratitude with all of this love pouring from everywhere but, HAVE YOU SEEN WHAT's OUT THERE? Surely, you've stepped out into the world and seen WAAAY cooler stuff than what I've been doing, right? So, I don't know if you all were mass smoking something, or everyone is hormonal or what, but YOU MADE A DIFFERENCE when you did this thing. Really, I keep getting more and more humbled that I am part of the little arts community in the world....sooooo...after some hard thinking, I am giving it another go....
And let me tell YOU, I love YOU guys so much that I am holding Night of 1000 Goddesses EVEN THOUGH I might not even be in New York City by the time it's held. Yep, in a totally random and long side story, I might actually be living in upstate NY or even North Carolina (gasp) by the time September rolls around but, never one to back down from the impossible, I'll just drive on up! Well, unless the GAS PRICES are comparable to gold and platinum prices, in which case I will be the first person to haul up the East Coast via HORSEBACK!
Anyhoo....so here it is: www.chovexani.com
My dance partner and I are in desperate need of some help. We choreographed a candle tray # to a piece of music that we thought came from Cirque Du Soliel album. We were asked to perform on a DVD and we would like to do this # but we need to see if we can license the song. We searched high and low for this original of the song and we cannot find it. My dance partner swears it is from Cirque Du Soleil but it is not on any of the albums we can find. If anyone knows where this music is from please let us know.  We would GREATLY appreciate it.  Thanks.
Hipnotique & GBD Intensive - Jersey Shore - March 22nd
Gothic Bellydance Workshop Intensive & Hipnotique @ The Jersey Shore
March 22nd, 2008 - Cape May, NJ
Come down to the shore to experience a whole day of bellydance outside the box! Take workshops with Tempest, the nation's premier Gothic Bellydance instructor, that will focus on quality fusion and dynamic form. Then get the glitter on and come on down to Hipnotique - an evening of bellydance at Cabanas!
The day starts out at North Beach Gym, located in North Cape May @ Route 9 and Bayshore Rd (right across from the Cape May-Lewes Ferry Port). From 12-2pm, take "Dramatic Body Language" - which approaches proper fusion from head to toe, emphasizing what makes GBD really gothic to the core!  (All levels).  For more intermediate students, from 2:30-4:30 is "Drop Dead Dramatic!" which is a BRAND NEW workshop focusing on turns, spins, and floorwork with a darker edge.
Registration is filling up quickly for the workshops and space is limited.  Take advantage of the great specials we're able to offer before March 18th - only $25 a workshop, or $45 for both!
Then we'll head just down the road to Cape May, right along the ocean at Cabanas Beach Bar & Grill for "Hipnotique" - our community experiment, welcoming all styles of bellydance performances, plus open dancing. There is NO cover for this event - and folks can enjoy great food and drinks in a relaxed and fun setting.  Event officially runs from 6-8pm...who knows after that!
There are performance slots available for Hipnotique - all styles of bellydance are welcome - we simply ask that you be accepting of the other styles being performed that evening.  Email Tempest at tempest@meddevi.com to secure your slot!
Complete details including workshop descriptions, addresses, and registration at http://www.darklydramatic.com/tempest/nj.html
As posted on my blog:
You might want to sit down for this one.  Here goes:    After a short time away, A LOT of soul serching, and any number of strange/uncanny coincidences I have decided to leave bellydance for an indefinite amount of time.
There are greater adventures, bigger quests, and other opportunities that have sort of been pulling at me for some time now, and ignoring them, while effective in the short run, was altogether different when coupled with the millions of other things I was doing.  Sometimes, it's easier to go where the path is trying to lead you rather than creating a path in treacherous territory.  So, while I'm sad to leave dance --and for a substantial amount of time--it was really my only identity--I am looking forward to a new and unusual life.
I will miss all of you crazy light-bearers, and people that I have known as my true friends.  I won't say I'll completely bow out of dance--I'll always jump in here and there, I'm sure--but as of now, ChoveXani is closing up shop.  I'll rework the sit e in a few days, because I'll be selling off a substantial amount of vending and costume items that I will need to clear out.
My last performance will be with Mimi at her Tribal Salon on the 8th.  I think we were set to do a regular meetup on Feb 28th.  If that goes through, I'll let you know, and you can come say goodbye---officially--if you'd like.  Also, if anyone feels like they would like to take over moderating duties for the East Coast Gothique Tribe, please PM me, as I'd really like someone to add a little vigor to what I think is really a great meeting space for non-traditional dance :)
This has been an amazing ride, and I am proud and happy to have been, for a time, amongst you.  I will carry very fond memories of the images of this life onto my next adventures.  You are all beautiful, clever, and amazing in your own way.  I have been lucky to see, and learn from you all.  You are all inspiring.  IF you are interested in keeping up with me, from here on out, feel free to see:
Alrighty, Kids...
So, this is an initial inquiry for weekends of March, some of April and Maybe the first weekend of May.  The tour is on WEEKEND dates, and  includes some of the original Night of 1000 Goddesseses.  I'm basically getting a caravan o' cars together, we're all hopping in, and we're coming to ya?  Who wants to sponsor? You'd be responsible for venue, dancer payment BUT you'd get 100% of ALL revenue, AND you'd get the best darn advertiser (that would be me!)for the whole shebang!
Possible Tour itinerary 1:  Boston, Philly, NYC, VA. the Carolinas, NorthFL (any and all stops in between).
Possible Tour itinerary 2: NYC, Pittsburg, Ohio (all stops in between)
Possible Tour Itinerary 3:  NYC, Boston, CT, Maine (all stops in between).
Any takers?  PM me or email zinnah@aol.com for more details....uhh, I'll need to know who wants to BE on tour, too... lemme know! :D
January Intensive in Philly with Tempest
Winter is the perfect time to focus inwardly on ourselves to bring about outward change for Spring.  So my January intensive will focus on "Enhancing Dance With Ritual" - a 3 hour intensive geared towards both dancers and Pagans, on incorporating the elements of ritual into the dance, while examining the relevance of the sacred and profane.
1-19-08 at Studio Zen, Yardley, Pennsylvania - Sponsored by Ak'Ana & Med'Devi Ink
Enhancing Dance With Ritual - learn to incorporate sacred meaning and intent with dance movement. Ritual is a dynamic union of self and spirit, above and below-so why should it be static? Learn to incorporate movement into your ritual with focused intention and discover a much more powerful experience. We'll look at the parts of various rituals from start to end, and how different sacred movements (gestures and dance steps) can be applied. Using ritual concepts from mystical spiritual traditions from both the East and West, we'll examine how the structure of a ritual can create a deeper sense of meaning and purpose in your performance. A basic understanding of Pagan spirituality is helpful, but not required (however, an open mind and creativity is!). This workshops is geared to bellydancers as well as for Pagans looking to invigorate their workspace.
TUITION: $50 in advance by 1/13, $60 afterwards if space is available.
Class space is very limited, so be sure to register ASAP so you won't miss out!
STUDIO DETAILS: Studio Zen, Address: 301 Oxford Valley Road, Suite 1503, Yardley, PA
website: studiozen.org
DATE & TIME: Saturday, January 19th, 2008 (snow date 1/26). Workshop will run 1-4pm. (Registration starts at 12:30pm.) The intensive will be followed by a Gothla (Gothic Hafla - a bellydance party with vendors and performances) will run from 6-9pm, with doors opening at 6pm, and an open path ritual will start off our festivities (all are welcome!).
GOTHLA!
What's a Gothla? A gothic hafla of course! Performances by Tempest and more, and vending as well! Takes place in the same location as the workshops. Doors open at 6pm, and event runs until 9pm. For a dance slot email us! (preference will be given to workshop students for performance slots). A few vending spots will be available for the gothla, and possibly during the workshops as well - email to reserve your spot! The Gothla is free to workshop participants/performers, and suggested donation of $5 ismuch appreciated at the door for all others.
Ariellah in Philly Dec 1 & 2
Just wanted to post a reminder - Ariellah in Philly, Dec 1 & 2.  Spots going Fast so if you want to register, best get on it....
Here is all the info (also on www.tribalbellies.com/events.htm)
************************************
December 1 & 2, 2007 - 2-day Workshop with Ariellah and Winter Belly Jam
Hipnosis is excited to be hosting a full weekend of workshops with Ariellah of CA!
Ariellah performs and teaches belly dance all over the world. She has an extensive 12 year dance background that includes strict classical ballet training with the Royal Academy of Dance from London. She studied and performed belly dance for the past six years with Janine Ryle of Danse Mahgreb and as a founding member of The Indigo with Rachel Brice. Her style infuses many genres of belly dance, all with a modern dark flavour that is uniquely her own. She is featured on the first of its kind “Gothic BellyDance” DVD and has also released her first instructional DVD.
*Saturday, Dec 1st: 1:00-5:30pm (includes 1/2 hour break)
Tribal Fusion Conditioning, Layering and Choreography
Prepare your body to do more than just drill and isolate, but to dance and to layer basic belly dance movements. This workshop focuses on strengthening and isolating core muscles in preparation for layering movements, incorporating these layering drills into a choreography learned in the workshop.
All levels are welcome; some belly dance experience is helpful but not required. Please dress as though you are going to a yoga class; bring a yoga mat or a towel, a hip scarf and water bottle (preferably full).
*Sunday, Dec 2nd: 12:00-3:30pm (includes 1/2 hour break)
The Darker Side of Drilling: Gothic Combinations and Choreography
In Ariellah’s workshop, students will drill and discuss chest and hip isolations, pops, locks and snake-like gothic belly dance arm movements, incorporating a dramatic darker side to their dance. Students will learn a short choreography, which will incorporate these techniques. Reinforcing fundamentals will bring strength and fluidity to the student’s movements and elevate their dance.
This class is fun and appropriate for all levels of Tribal-flavored dancer, and those new to Tribal Style are encouraged to give it a try. Some Belly dance experience is recommended. Please wear exercise-friendly clothes and bring something to tie around your hips! Water is good too.
Where: B&R Fitness Club, 1040 Mill Creek Drive (just off Street Road), Feasterville, PA 19053
*Workshops will be held in a spacious aerobic room with polished hard-wood floors and a mirrored front wall!
Cost: $65 for Sat or Sun only; $120 for entire weekend.
Registration: available via Paypal & Snail Mail!
First up: YES, the I've made good on the threats...errr, promises that the mass insanity of my farm dreams would come to light.
Soo....as if I didn't HAVE enough to do...I now have an online "rurban" (rural urban) magazine! Yes, I know, all said bellydancers may pick their jaws up off the floor....and check it out:
www.bigtownfarmer.com
Hey, a girl's gotta have an alternate, ya know. Tell me if'n ya like it, or *ahem* if you crafty types <blatant hint> want to contribute and article >:)
Next UP: Ditching the cabaret world of dance...well, at least the clothes...by Monday I'll have posted pics, in my profile section, of SEVERAL items from my costume room that must go. Many of them are NEW things that were destined to be vended but, alas, I had no time to vend! So, new and like new yummy things for you.
LAST...just an enquiry...whos up for performing and/or hosting a 1000 Goddesses tour April and May of next year?
Happy Halloween!
Asharah Workshop, NYC, November!
Well...I'm not hosting it, but I thought...why not support our experimental sistah?  :)  You'd be a fool not to go!  Lady Asharah from Washington DC is being hosted by Sarah Locke, of Alchemy Performance, right here in NYC!!  From Sarah's site:
Elegant Isolations: Strong and Graceful Technique for Tribal Fusion Bellydance
A workshop with Asharah from Washington, DC
Sunday November 11th from 1-4 pm
Dance Forum, 20 East 17th Street (btw. 5th & Broadway) 2nd floor
$50 in advance / $55 at the door
In this workshop Asharah will teach tips and tricks for powerful, fluid movement for tribal fusion belly dance. While sharp locks are an essential part of the tribal dancer's repertoire, grace and polish are equally, if not more, important for conveying expression and feeling from the stage to the audience. Asharah will lead students through an intense warm-up that will prepare the body for fluid arm-work, sinuous isolations, and dramatic extension. We will drill smooth bellydance movements, such as arm-waves, interior hip circles, and undulations, and then Asharah will teach a short combination using these moves in a choreography.
Renowned for her strong technique and dramatic fusion of tribal and cabaret bellydance, Asharah teaches and performs her unique tribal fusion throughout the US. She is featured on the groundbreaking DVD Gothic Bellydance: The Darker Side of Fusion and will be releasing Modern Tribal Bellydance, her first instructional DVD, in early 2008 with World Dance NY.
To register please contact sarah@alchemyperformance.com if you wish to pay by cash or check, or pay via Paypal, using the "send money" tab to send $51.50 ($50+$1.50 service charge) to sarahjolo@aol.com.
Visit www.asharah.com for more info.
East Coast Experimental Resource...
Alrighty Ladies and Gents...
It occurs to me, finally getting myself together after mass insanity (and pre-Halloween mass insanity) that I'm not completely up to date with all the new, mahvelous happ'nin's around the East Coast.  There are a whole Gothic, theatrical, non-traditional bunch of us...so, make yourselves known.  Or, recommend someone.  Who are the best musicians, great costuming resources, best place for funky hair?  Isn't it about time we had a compendium on this site?  The only criteria for recommendations: they live, or cater to , the East Coast ....
I'll go first--here's a short list that I can think of (if'n I exclude you, it's clearly because I am old and haven't taken the Ginko yet, ok?)
Experimental Music:  Maduro
Cool Live Band: EastWinds Tribal Drumming
Kick Ass Gothic and Experimental dancers - PA: Ak-Ana, Hipnosis
Awesome Headdresses:  Aonochi/AO
Washington DC mavens:  Asharah, Romka, Shakra (crap, isn't that the entirety of DC?)
Regular Experimental Dance Events:  Tribal Jam, DC Tribal Cafe, Raks Spooki, Exquisite Corpse, uhh....some 1000 Goddess thing...
The Ladies of New England:  Aepril Schaile, Badriya, Aonochi
Uhh, that's just off the top o' my head...there are tons of others, I'm sure, and tons I prolly don't know about...so, give a shout out! :D
Ariellah Workshops in Philly Dec 1 & 2 !!
Registration is now open!!
December 1 & 2, 2007 - 2-day Workshop with Ariellah and Winter Belly Jam
Hipnosis is excited to be hosting a full weekend of workshops with Ariellah of CA!
Ariellah performs and teaches belly dance all over the world. She has an extensive 12 year dance background that includes strict classical ballet training with the Royal Academy of Dance from London. She studied and performed belly dance for the past six years with Janine Ryle of Danse Mahgreb and as a founding member of The Indigo with Rachel Brice. Her style infuses many genres of belly dance, all with a modern dark flavour that is uniquely her own. She is featured on the first of its kind “Gothic BellyDance” DVD and has also released her first instructional DVD.
*Saturday, Dec 1st: 1:00-5:30pm (includes 1/2 hour break)
Tribal Fusion Conditioning, Layering and Choreography
Prepare your body to do more than just drill and isolate, but to dance and to layer basic belly dance movements. This workshop focuses on strengthening and isolating core muscles in preparation for layering movements, incorporating these layering drills into a choreography learned in the workshop.
All levels are welcome; some belly dance experience is helpful but not required. Please dress as though you are going to a yoga class; bring a yoga mat or a towel, a hip scarf and water bottle (preferably full).
*Sunday, Dec 2nd: 12:00-3:30pm (includes 1/2 hour break)
The Darker Side of Drilling: Gothic Combinations and Choreography
In Ariellah’s workshop, students will drill and discuss chest and hip isolations, pops, locks and snake-like gothic belly dance arm movements, incorporating a dramatic darker side to their dance. Students will learn a short choreography, which will incorporate these techniques. Reinforcing fundamentals will bring strength and fluidity to the student’s movements and elevate their dance.
This class is fun and appropriate for all levels of Tribal-flavored dancer, and those new to Tribal Style are encouraged to give it a try. Some Belly dance experience is recommended. Please wear exercise-friendly clothes and bring something to tie around your hips! Water is good too.
Where: B&R Fitness Club, 1040 Mill Creek Drive (just off Street Road), Feasterville, PA 19053
*Workshops will be held in a spacious aerobic room with polished hard-wood floors and a mirrored front wall!
Cost: $65 for Sat or Sun only; $120 for entire weekend.
Registration: available via Paypal & Snail Mail!
Sub Swara 2 Year Anniversary!!
www.subswara.com
We're celebrating our 2nd birthday with new beginnings and round 2 of an epic East-West Coast soundclash! After a year at Element, we're thrilled to bits to be bringing Sub Swara to our new home and the most killer club soundsystem in New York City - LOVE (go to www.musicislove.net for limited advance discount tickets! ).
This one will be the 2nd coming of our bredren, the Glitch Mob and it's going to be another epic face-off. In the home corner, the Sub Swara posse weighs in with the hard-hitting trio of Dhruva, Sunder, and Haj, heavy-weight MC Juakali and Pictureman & Skip Intro on visual attack. 'Lo FreQuencY High Vibration Culture' laced with live dubbed tablas, turntablism, Ragga vocals, and deep visual mixology. A barrage of genre defying sonics spanning crushing breaks, chubby dubstep, nasty grime, mid-tempo glitch, digi-dancehall, and much more big speaker biz. The SS crew has a grip of new tunes of the studio desk to drop on ya'll!
In the visitors corner The Glitch Mob comes out swinging, as individual superstars edIT and Boretta join forces. These boys have been straight tearing up the circuit with their crunked-out glitch-injected hip-hop & lush IDM. Look out for edIT's highly anticipated new album Certified Air Raid Material, out on Alpha Pup Records later this year.
THANK YOU FOR ANOTHER GREAT YEAR!!
Technically, this really goes in the "1000 Goddesses" Tribe, but it occurs to me that some of the participants actually are just subscribed here.....
It's taken me a minute to recover, but I just wanted to throw out my most heartfelt sincere thanks to EVERYONE involved with the show...whether you helped, came and watched, danced, or cheered us on!  You've made this another sold out season, but also reminded me why the hell I tear my crazy synthetic hair out all year long :D
The whole experience was amazing, not the least of which was the whole supportive and loving vibe throughout!  Sometimes it truly hits me how very blessed I am.
Some more memorable moments had nothing to do with actual performances, although ALL of the performances blew me away---ladies of the 2nd 1000 Goddesses, you have a perpetual fan in me!
Some moments that left an impression:  dancers, husbands, boyfriends working together to get that derned crazy stage together.
~~Sera and her sweet baby Sequoia, and the many dancers who willingly took turns watching her.
~~Morocco completely mesmerizing with her Guedra Blessing performance.
~~That derned "Matrix-y" section of Sera and Solstice's piece  :)
~~~Sina being devilishly possessed in hers
~~Aepril may be the best Morrigan I've ever seen onstage. The outfit DEFINITELY kicked ass.
~~~Romka also kicked much boohteh.  I will never view a sword routine the same way again. They like to think they're bad ass, but their really sweet kittens (NOTE:  I say this knowing they are safely 4 states away! Ha!)
~~Sarah Locke, stunning in an ancient Rajistani outfit
~~~ChandraDance, making Indian Dance look flawless, with their beautiful outfits
~~~Laura McCutchan and Mavi FINALLY meeting.  For months the rumors flew...they were so similar looking that they were the same people.  Nope!  And the universe never exploded when they met, either.
~~~ Ariellah, simply being the creature of dance that she is.
~~~ Making a Mistress cry by simply telling her how much we'll miss her going  when she moves to Canada.
~~~ Almost being made to cry when people act like they like what we're doing.  Flowers are always helpful, in this case.
Ugg, the list goes on and on! But, suffice it to say again....thank you!! I love everybody!
Raks Spooki II, Nov. 18--call for dancers, vendors

OK, it's official now! Raks Spooki II, the second annual fall celebration of New England's gothic belly dance community, is happening on Sunday, November 18, 2007 from 3:30-6:30pm, at the Regent Underground Theatre in Arlington, MA. Dance slots will fill up *very* quickly, so please let me know asap if you are interested in performing. Strict time limit of 6 minutes per slot. Additionally, I have space for vendors. The vending fee this time around will be $35 as the theatre has raised its rental fee. Those spots will also fill quickly! Message me through Tribe if interested in performing or vending, or email me at badriya at rcn dot com.

I'm pleased to say that the hafli will be a benefit for Women for Women, www.womenforwomen.org/ , a non-profit which helps women in war-torn regions of the world get back on their feet and start rebuilding their lives. Using what women of the Middle East have given us, we can make real differences in the lives of other women. We can use our freedoms to help them gain their own freedom from war, poverty and injustice.

Details on the event's workshop are still being ironed out, but will be forthcoming soon!

If anyone wants my spot I'm willing to give it up for 50 - I paid 67. I will contact Zan and tell her my issue and if she's willing, she'll collect the money and I can get it from her.

I'm sorry to miss Ariellah - I hope someone else gets to have a great time... :(
